Water Collection: Our water is collected (as rain) off the house roof and stored in cisterns under the front porch. It will be necessary to pump water each day to a header tank on the roof and/or hillside using the solar-powered pump. A gasoline-powered pump is available for backup. When using either pump be sure to open both the input and output water valves. In-house water then feeds by gravity from the header tank. Water conservation is a necessity and guests should be careful not to overfill the tank and to limit their water usage. Good water conservation practices include minimizing shower times, shutting off faucets tightly, and not using water excessively. While locals do drink the cistern water, we recommend that guests drink bottled water. Some bottled drinking water will be provided, however, we also recommend that all guests purchase additional bottled water for drinking purposes in Road Town during provisioning.
